The United Nations proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ). IYQ was a global initiative that aimed to strengthen national capacities in the basic sciences and science education. This initiative highlighted the contribution of quantum science to our increased knowledge and understanding of the physical universe, as well as the critical role of quantum science and technology in developing sustainable solutions in energy, education, communications, and human health. Throughout the year, a variety of events took place worldwide to celebrate all aspects of quantum science.
One of these initiatives was the creation of a special issue of Physics in Canada celebrating the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. The goal of this special issue was to create an overview of Canadian research in quantum science and technology, broadly construed, showcasing its diversity and impact.
