Congratulations to the Winner of the 2025 IYQ Design Competition

Jasmine is a first-year PhD student at the University of British Columbia working with the T2K/Hyper-K group at TRIUMF. They are honoured to have their design chosen for the CAP IYQ 2025 competition. Their design represents a superposition of quantum-driven technological advancements and the fundamental physics underlying the natural world. The orientation of the two halves of the Canadian maple leaf is a nod to the familiar orthonormal basis for the spin-1⁄2 particle. Learn more >

The International Year of Quantum Science and Technology was a global initiative, celebrated throughout 2025, that aimed to strengthen national capacities in the basic sciences and science education. This initiative highlighted the contribution of quantum science to our increased knowledge and understanding of the physical universe, as well as the critical role of quantum science and technology in developing sustainable solutions in energy, education, communications, and human health.

Anyone, anywhere was able to participate in IYQ by helping others to learn more about quantum on this centennial occasion or by simply taking the time to learn more about it themselves. Events and competitions hosted by IYQ Canada in 2025 are described here.

This nationwide event invited academic institutions, companies, non-profits, and individuals to open their doors to the public, showcasing Canada’s leadership in quantum through free and engaging programming. From lab tours and interactive exhibits to public lectures and virtual events, there was something for everyone to explore.
